They're cropped like the Dragon Box, but depending on who you ask, all the Dragon Ball movies were meant to be seen in 16:9 anyway, so it's not a major loss like the Orange Bricks.
DRAGONBOX DVD MOVIE
Some actually look pretty good (Movie 12, Movie 13) while some are really poorly done (Movie 1, Movie 8). Double Feature DVD/BD & Movie collection DVD packs (English titles and credits only) Movie 4 actually looks pretty good though.Ģ. The 4-pack's okay, but Movie 2 has half the frame rate for some bizarre reason, and Movies 1-3 have had weird color correction choices.

Every release has had at least one significant problem with it. Original single DVDs (edited & dub-only for the first 67 episodes) Orange Bricks (cropped, eye cancer for first few sets) I'd argue in favor of the original singles in this case - the bricks for DB and GT don't have the original title cards, and the GT single releases look fairly close to the Dragon Box, despite the poor encoding on the single DVDs. In terms of picture quality, the releases go something like this: Cropping is one thing, annihilating the look of the film is another. They filtered the video to hell and back and it looks like garbage. The new Blu-ray sets are terribad I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Unfortunately, they've only released the 'Z' portion so far in North America, and they're becoming increasingly hard to find. You've got that right, the Dragon Box is currently the best version to own on home video. The only improvement that could be made on them would be to include an option for the American broadcast audio.
DRAGONBOX DVD SERIES
In my opinion, the Dragon Box sets are definitely the best English language release of the series by a pretty wide margin. I already bought into that crap with the orange bricks (it was the only full-series set available at the time), and I'm not interested in doing it again, despite my nostalgic preference for Bruce Faulconer's American musical score. I have heard the recently released Blu-ray Season set kind of sucks, but I wasn't going to buy it either way due to the 16:9 aspect ratio. I hear nothing but good things about the "Level" sets, but since they were discontinued, I don't really have much interest in them I only really want complete sets, which is also why I gave away my "Ultimate Uncut" DVD's. I haven't watched the "Level" sets or the new Blu-ray Season set. I had the "Ultimate Uncut" DVD's a while back, but I gave them to my brother. Contains episodes 169 - 209.I have all nine Season sets (colloquially known as the "orange bricks"), all seven Dragon Box sets, and parts one through eight of Dragon Ball Z Kai on Blu-ray.
